Opening Statement

Welcome to the Model United Nations site for the students at the Centre International de Valbonne (CIV). The CIV is a French lycée in Valbonne, France. Students involved in Model United Nations are part of the American Secition of the CIV and the program is run by Mr. Gallagher. Our goal is to chronicle our activities during the 2009-2010 school years. We hope you will join us as watch as we tackle some of the world's most difficult problems.

At the end of January we will be heading to the Hague for the world MUN conference. At that conference our school will represent Brazil -- something we are very happy about because Brazil has an important role at the conference. 16 of us will spend a week at the conference where we will role-play what it would be like to be a member of United Nations. During the conference we will deal with real issues facing the world today

What is MUN?

First things first: what is Model United Nations? That's a question we often get. Well, here's a brief answer from an MUN website:

Model United Nations (also Model UN or MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to educate participants about civics, effective communication, globalization and multilateral diplomacy. In Model UN, students take on roles as foreign diplomats and participate in a simulated session of an intergovernmental organization (IGO). Participants research a country, take on roles as diplomats, investigate international issues, debate, deliberate, consult, and then develop solutions to world problems.
